Winter Tyres

Winter tyres are designed to excel in cold temperatures, rain, slush, ice and snow.

Once the temperature drops below seven degrees the summer tyres on our car will start to harden resulting in dramatically reduced performance.

Winter tyres have a rubber compound made up with a very high silica content. Combined with specially designed tread patterns it means the tyre stays warmer and runs at its optimum working temperature. At 30mph on snow, a winter tyre will stop 11 metres shorter than a summer tyre and that is over two car lengths!

At Fort Road we carry huge stocks of winter tyres and operate a ‘Tyre Hotel’ where we can store your summer and winter tyres ready for fitting when the seasons change. As a general guide, we fit the winter tyres in October and remove them in either March or April.
